On January 22, 2023, at 5:00 PM, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) cafeteria courtyard was bustling with activity as SPEED (Save People from Economic and Environmental Disaster) distributed winter clothing among the needy, disadvantaged, and destitute. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, the BUET Student Welfare Director, graced the occasion as a special guest. Also present were the founding president of the organization, Dr. Ripon Hore, founding vice-president Md. Ahsan Habib, current president of SPEED, Rimi Bashar, along with students from BUET, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka University, and BRAC University.

On the same day, winter clothing distribution was also conducted at the Shaheed Minar of Dhaka University and in the city of Bogura on behalf of the organization.

At the event, BUET Student Welfare Director Dr. Mizanur Rahman expressed his admiration for the non-political organization’s efforts, stating, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to those who are leading this organization. It is commendable that this organization is standing by the side of the needy and sick amidst climate change-related challenges, which is a first in Bangladesh.” Dr. Ripon Hore, the founding president of the organization, remarked during the winter clothing distribution event, “It has been observed that during various disasters, including earthquakes, it’s the students who come forward first. Students from universities have been actively participating, and SPEED has been operational since 2009 under their leadership.” Meanwhile, Md. Ahsan Habib, the founding vice-president of SPEED, announced, “Gradually, the activities of SPEED will be conducted in every public and private university.” He extended gratitude and appreciation to all those present for their participation in the winter clothing distribution program.
